Formatted across the initial minute of each episode, the titles appear in three ‘stings’, followed by a lead title card. The team pitched the concept for the work, which is rooted in the premise of ‘refocus’: reflecting the micro-to-macro theme of Television’s VFX throughout, and the unique perspective gained by astronauts of the Earth in their voyages.

The designers worked with elements of Chris Parks’ photography, split out into 2.5D, to create their abstract images; posing questions of vast scale and scope, from the cellular to the planetary, and challenging the viewer to look at the Earth through a new lens. The Design Studio also benefited from its proximity to the Television VFX unit, working neatly alongside the series producers and clients, making for another collaborative creative process with Nat Geo.
